A volumetric (true 3-D) mesh that is constructed of 3-D tetrahedral elements (pyramid-shaped).
3-D meshes are used for thick, solid geometry or thick-to-thin geometry. Since plastic flows in 3 dimensions when walls are thick, 3-D meshing is critical for computation of velocities, pressures, temperatures, meltfront positions and heat transfer effects in all axes.
Midplane and Fusion are alternatives to 3-D meshing.
